About Me

Hi! Iā€™m Karen - former Occupational Therapist turned UX/UI designer

With a diverse background in entrepreneurship, design, and occupational therapy. For 5 years, I ran my own small business that made inclusive greeting cards for visually impaired clients such as American Singer-Song writer, Stevie Wonder and keyboardist (Casey Harris) of an American band called X Ambassador. I also have business operations management experiences managing a team of 10, overseeing day to day operational functions, and on-going business development for a small government contracting company. Finally, having a background in psychology and occupational therapy, I have a human-centered focus due to my work as an Occupational Therapist at a Senior Assistive Living and Retirement Community.

All of these skills translate directly to UX. I love the unique way that as a UX designer I can improve the lives of others and make large social impacts through subtle changes in process and interaction. I believe that for any product/experience to be successful, it must start with the people and how each individual uses and interacts with that product. If people have pleasant and smooth interactions with it, the chances of reusing and reengaging increases which will lead to better business outcomes and overall happiness for all!

Outside of Work :)

  • The banner above is showing you some card designs I painted using watercolor while creating inclusive braille greeting cards, In the physical world, each card is not only visually appealing but also textured so everyone can enjoy no matter what their visual abilities are. This burger card is one of my favs!

  • Cat Mom. Love that our cat used to travel with us around the country! She gets herself comfortable and likes to look out the window in between naps.

  • I also love to travel so I can try new FOODS and immerse myself in beautiful scenery! This picture was taken during a food tour in Florence, Italy.
